Hybrid Fixators are external fixation devices that combine the stability of Circular (Ring) Fixators with the simplicity of Monolateral Fixators. They are particularly useful in complex fractures near joints, especially when soft tissue preservation is critical. Hybrid systems allow for effective stabilization while reducing the risk of soft tissue damage, making them ideal for certain challenging trauma cases.

Indications:
  • Periarticular fractures, especially around the Proximal or Distal Tibia e.g., Tibial Plateau or Pilon fractures
  • Open fractures with compromised soft tissue where internal fixation is risky
  • Comminuted metaphyseal fractures requiring stable fixation
  • Fractures with severe soft tissue injury or swelling
  • Infected fractures or in cases of Osteomyelitis
  • Polytrauma patients, where temporary stabilization is needed before definitive surgery
  • Revision surgery after failed internal fixation
  • Pediatric fractures where Growth Plates need to be protected

The Sheffield Ring Fixator is a type of Circular External Fixator designed to treat complex fractures and limb deformities with minimal disruption to soft tissues. It provides stable, multiplanar fixation and is particularly effective in managing fractures with poor bone stock or compromised soft tissue. Its modular design allows for gradual correction and adaptability in trauma cases.

Indications:
  • Comminuted or segmental fractures of the Tibia or Femur
  • Open fractures with soft tissue damage
  • Periarticular fractures, especially near joints e.g., Tibial Plateau, Pilon fractures
  • Infected non-unions or septic fractures
  • Bone defects requiring lengthening or transport
  • Fractures in patients with poor healing potential e.g., diabetics, smokers
  • Temporary stabilization in polytrauma cases
