The AO Type External Fixator is a monolateral external fixation system developed in accordance with the principles of the AO (Association for the Study of Internal Fixation). It provides rigid and stable fixation, enabling precise fracture alignment and early mobilization while minimizing soft tissue trauma.
This system is particularly effective in trauma and emergency situations where internal fixation is not immediately possible, offering reliable temporary or definitive stabilization.
Indications:
- Open fractures with soft tissue injury
- Temporary stabilization in polytrauma patients (Damage Control Orthopedics)
- Comminuted diaphyseal fractures of long bones (e.g., Tibia, Femur, Humerus)
- Fractures with extensive swelling or risk of compartment syndrome
- Infected fractures or non-unions
- Pediatric fractures where internal fixation is contraindicated
- Fracture reduction and alignment prior to definitive internal fixation
